The Lancashire Group

Your local group of the RSF the off-road cycle touring Club

For cyclists who love off road leisure cycling in Northern England

22nd February 2009: A ride from Worden Park in Leyland to the Anchor Pub in Hutton.

Dug Heaven, the organiser and leader of today's ride pointing out my new Rough-Stuff Fellowship poster. Dug had obviously spent considerable time and effort planning this ride. Even our locals had not used some of the cycle paths, and indeed were not even aware of the existence of some of them!

This is a close up of the new poster, unfortunately the Fellowship's Website address did not appear on this one, our printer had developed a minor fault. This is now corrected, I now need to produce the finished article.

I decided to arrive early for the ride, and nipped into the Worden Park Coffee Shop at 9-30am for coffee and toast.

Here we are leaving Leyland on a good traffic free cycle route near the River Lostock.

We arrive at the Dolphin Public House for elevenses, it is just on the outskirts of Longton near the Ribble Way and Longton Marsh.

Having a welcome cuppa, at a very reasonable price, in the Dolphin beside a roaring log fire.

Dot and Ken arrive by tandem to join us for the ride to our lunch destination.

Again we find ourselves on another delightful track, this one to the Old Grange and Bottom of Hutton.

The ten of us on the ride were made most welcome at the Anchor Pub in Hutton, here we enjoyed an excellent lunch in comfortable surroundings.

Here Allan, Grayham and Eddie get ready for the start of the afternoon session.

We arrive on the banks of the River Ribble, about a mile South West of Preston City Centre.

This is the track above the river on the flood defence wall on the approach to Preston.

Our arrival at the Maple Leaf Tea Room for our last cuppa of the ride, before the final leg back to Worden Park. If anyone would like to know where this tea room is, they should contact Dug, I've looked at the map and can't pinpoint it.

Here, at one of numerous gates, we marvel at the thought for cyclists by the local authority. Not only had we to dismount, as per the sign, but also manhandle some of the cycles over the fence. Thanks again to Dug for leading this run, see you all next time. Brian.
