The Lancashire Group

Your local group of the RSF the off-road cycle touring Club

For cyclists who love off road leisure cycling in Northern England

29th March 2009: A ride to the Clarion House and  Barley.

We were greeted with cold and sunny weather for the start of the ride, here on the car park at Spring Wood, Whalley.

Pausing to re-group near Wiswell (pronounced wizzel) Moor Farm, the new-born lambs in the field heralding the first day of Spring.

Here's Mike appearing to be enjoying himself on the stony/slippery ascent of the moor.

Taking a brief respite before the steep descent into Sabden at the highest point of the morning leg of our ride today, at the Nick of Pendle, altitude 303 metres.

Andy, with the group behind, on the steep approach to Ratten Clough.

Here's Geoff leading the group along the track to Sabden Fold, after we had all crossed the small ford without mishap.

Our arrival at Clarion House for elevenses, a beautiful location, no wonder it's so popular with walkers and cyclists.

Straight through the ford at White Hough, no problem!

A careful look into Pendle Water by Mike, before another successful crossing.

Barley Information Centre and Cafe, our lunch stop.

Bob leads the group along the Black Moss track, before the start of the ascent of Pendle Hill.

The highest point of the afternoon leg of the ride between Pendle Hill and Twiston Moor, altitude 330 metres.

Of what could be described as a very 'convenient' converted pig sty in the village of Downham.

The final leg of today's ride, the track between Little Mearley Hall and Mearley Hall.  I don't think the cyclist behind the tree was being camera shy, it's just a case of bad photography!  That's all for now, see you all next time, Brian.
