The Lancashire Group

Your local group of the RSF the off-road cycle touring Club

For cyclists who love off road leisure cycling in Northern England

31st May 2009: A ride over Winter Hill to Curlies Fisheries.

Blue sky and sunshine to greet us at the start of the ride, and for the rest of the day, as we assemble on the car park at Rivington Hall Barn.

We pause by the dovecote, locally known as the pigeon tower, after the long climb through the terraced gardens.

With Morecambe Bay in the background, we begin the descent to Barrow Bridge from Winter Hill.

On the bridleway through Bolton Golf Club, after the stiff climb from Barrow Bridge, with the wonderful Lancashire countryside in the background.

The picnic area at Curlies Fisheries, our lunch destination. Here we were met by Christine, who had ridden from Darwen, and Ken and Dot who had ridden from Hilldale, to join us for lunch.

Yet another brief rest before a climb, this one out of Lead Mines Clough to Jepson's Gate.

Did I say earlier we had started from a car park? This was the scene at Hall Barn on our return! I hope everyone enjoyed the ride, and I look forward to your fellowship on future events. All the best, Brian.
